Role Overview

The Plumbing Engineer / MEP Design Engineer is a plumbing-led, project-oriented role responsible for delivering coordinated MEP designs from concept through construction. This individual will lead plumbing scopes while collaborating closely with mechanical and electrical disciplines to produce efficient, code-compliant, and constructible designs.

Success in this role requires strong technical plumbing expertise, hands-on project management experience, and the ability to serve as a confident point of contact for clients and project stakeholders. The ideal candidate is process-driven, software-savvy, and comfortable balancing design execution with project leadership responsibilities.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead plumbing system design for domestic water, sanitary, storm, gas, and specialty systems as applicable.
    • Develop plumbing system concepts aligned with project requirements, client expectations, and applicable codes.
    • Perform plumbing calculations, fixture counts, system sizing, and equipment selections.
    • Manage plumbing-led project scopes from concept through construction, ensuring schedule, budget, and quality alignment.
    • Serve as a day-to-day point of contact for clients, architects, and consultants on plumbing and MEP coordination.
    • Coordinate plumbing designs with mechanical, electrical, fire protection, and architectural disciplines.
    • Participate in multidisciplinary coordination meetings and BIM/Revit workflows.
    • Prepare, review, and oversee construction documents, specifications, and technical reports.
    • Support construction administration activities including RFIs, submittals, site visits, and field observations.
    • Assist with proposal development, scope definition, and fee estimates for plumbing and MEP work.
    • Mentor junior designers and contribute to internal QA/QC standards and processes.
    • Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes, local amendments, and project standards.

    Required Background

    • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
      • Minimum 5–7 years of plumbing design experience within an MEP consulting environment.
      • Certified Plumbing Designer (CPD) license required or in progress.
      • Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, codes, and design standards.
      • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit for MEP design.
      • Experience producing fully coordinated construction documents.
      • Demonstrated project management experience with client-facing responsibility.
      • Strong communication, organization, and cross-discipline collaboration skills.
      • High attention to detail with a quality- and process-focused mindset.
        Professional Engineer (PE) license or active path toward licensure (Preferred).
