Role Overview

The Machining & Technology Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of machine shop operations, including production planning, personnel leadership, quality control, process development, and technology management. This role ensures that production schedules, quality standards, and delivery commitments are consistently met while supporting cost control and profitability objectives.

This position requires a hands-on leader with strong machining expertise, technical problem-solving skills, and a continuous improvement mindset within a manufacturing environment.

Core Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily machine shop operations to meet production schedules, quality requirements, and delivery commitments
  • Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) across machining operations
  • Monitor and manage labor utilization, tooling costs, scrap rates, overtime, and equipment maintenance expenses
  • Support quoting activities, cost-reduction initiatives, and overall shop profitability goals
  • Lead, train, mentor, and evaluate machinists, programmers, and support staff
  • Enforce shop policies, performance standards, and safety procedures
  • Develop individualized training and skills-development plans for operators
  • Ensure all machined parts meet engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards
  • Enforce inspection procedures and corrective actions for nonconforming parts
  • Enforce safety programs including machine guarding, lockout/tagout, and OSHA compliance

Required Background

  • 5 + years of proven experience managing machine shop or machining operations in a manufacturing environment
    • Strong technical knowledge of CNC machining, programming, tooling, and shop workflows
    • Experience supervising and leading machinists, programmers, and production teams
    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications
    • Demonstrated experience with process improvement, cost control, and operational efficiency
    • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and leadership skills
    • Working knowledge of safety standards and OSHA regulations in a machine shop environment
